[ICYMI] SorSU PROGRAM SYNAPSE, in collaboration with DOH’s Healthy Pilipinas initiative, empowers residents of Brgy. Sampaloc through mental health activities (sessions 2 & 3); offers free grooming services: haircut, massage, manicure/pedicure

To champion self-care, grooming, and community well-being toward improved mental health, Sorsogon State University – PROGRAM SYNAPSE (Synergistic Yields Network for Advancing Public Health and Scientific Expertise), led by Dr. Aaron A. Funa (Program Leader & Overall Chair) and in partnership with the Department of Health – Region V (DOH-ROV), through its Healthy Pilipinas campaign, empowered the residents of Barangay Sampaloc through its Sessions 2 and 3 focused on mental health initiatives, which highlighted seminar-workshops on coping with stress & anxiety and practicing self-love; free grooming services, including haircut, massage, & manicure/pedicure; and the Thank You, Self! – Self-Care Video Making Contest last October 16 and 26, 2024, respectively, held in Brgy. Sampaloc, Sorsogon City.


Session 2 featured Topic 2: Tibay ng Loob: Paano Manatiling Matatag sa Harap ng Pagsubok by Ms. Mary Ann J. Jintalan (Head, Guidance and Counseling Services Unit), emphasizing practices for building resilience in challenging time, including stress management, overcoming adversity, fostering resilience, and cultivating positive thinking.


Meanwhile, Session 3 focused on Topic 3: Bayanihan sa Isip at Puso: Pagtataguyod ng Malusog na Ugnayan by Mr. Mikko S. Guardian, underscoring the crucial role of social support in mental well-being, particularly in building trusted support networks, offering help to others, and seeking professional mental health support. Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs) also graced the event and provided the opening remarks.


Notably, the 3rd session highlighted free grooming services, such as haircut, massage, and manicure & pedicure services, encouraging residents to practice regular and improved personal hygiene and grooming. In addition, it also included the Thank You, Self! – Self-Care Video Making Contest, empowering and supporting young people in their efforts toward self-care and mental wellness.


Further, the 2nd session documented 61 attendees, while the 3rd session achieved a significant record of 160 beneficiaries. The successful three sessions of Project Synapse focused on a series of mental health activities are aligned with the DOH’s Healthy Pilipinas: Health is Life initiative, specifically the Seven Healthy Habits: (5) Care for yourself, care for others.
