Leadership Training at Sorsogon State University: “Lead with Purpose, Inspire with Passion”

From February 21 to 22, 2025, Sorsogon State University – Magallanes Campus hosted a leadership training program titled “SIRIM: Lead with Purpose, Inspire with Passion.” Spearheaded by SSC President Manuel V. Silencio Jr., who also serves as the University Student Council President, the training aimed to equip participants with essential leadership skills, including effective communication, proposal writing, and crafting resolutions.

The objectives of the training included deepening participants’ understanding of roles and responsibilities within organizational settings, empowering them to become advocates for societal change, and fostering a spirit of service and responsibility in the community.


Additionally, the program sought to promote a culture of respect and inclusion among attendees.

The training featured a lineup of resource speakers. Mr. Robert G. Buban provided valuable insights on the general principles and steps involved in financial statement and writing important organizational documents. Mr. Abel E. Arevalo Jr. discussed on writing project proposals while Magallanes Municipal Councilor Roy C. Carrascal shared his expertise on parliamentary procedures.


A total of 80 student leaders from various school-based organizations participated in the event. Among the organizations represented were the Scholars’ League, United Vision for Future Educators and Researchers in Science Education (UniVERSE), NSTP KAAGAPAY, Integrated Wildlife Holistic Academic Learning Education (iWHALE) Researchers’ Guild, SorSU Sports Club, SorSU Integrated Artists’ Guild (SINAG), and The Aqua Channel. Additionally, departmental groups such as the SorSU Aspiring Educators’ Guild (AEG), Young Entrepreneurs’ Society (YES), Fisheries and Aquatic Guild (FAS-G), and Sorsogon State University Sea Explorers’ Alliance (SorSU SEA) were in attendance.


The event was supervised by the Supreme Student Council with guidance from Prof. Robert G. Buban, Adviser and Student Development and Services Coordinator. The SorSU Supreme Student Council expressed gratitude to the Administration, the Magallanes MDRRMO, security officers from Barangay Aguada Norte, and SorSU security personnel for their unwavering support in making the training a success.
