Newly elected SorSU University Student Council officers commit to leadership in oathtaking and turnover ceremony

To officially recognize the incoming USC officers as well as pledge their commitment to student service and leadership, the newly elected Sorsogon State University – University Student Council (SorSU-USC) officers formally took their oath of office during the ceremonial oathtaking and turnover activity, held on November 11, 2024, at the Antonio’s Hall, SorSU Dormtel, Sorsogon City Campus.

In his opening message, Mr. Rytzz M. Obsum (Adviser, University Student Council) noted that although leadership is often subjected to criticisms and unfounded accusations, it is up to the student leaders to persevere and navigate the challenges they encounter. Mr. Obsum added, “If you keep the burning passion within your hearts, you will never get lost. You will always find your way to the spirit of being a servant leader.”


Similarly, Prof. Maria Crisanta M. Jarque (Director, Office of the Student Development and Services) highlighted in her message that while challenges may test the student leaders’ resolve, the fulfillment of serving with a generous heart will always remain in their hearts.
“Kung kaya’t bilang kasama sa Pamantasang May Puso, inaasahan din na kayo ay mga estudyante at pinunong may puso. Ibig sabihin, mauuna talaga ang iba bago ang sadiri.”


Meanwhile, the ceremonial oathtaking, administered by SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, was participated by the following newly elected USC officers:
President: Alfred P. Gabelo (Castilla Campus)
Vice President: Norgel D. Bermudo (Magallanes Campus)
Secretary: Hilary Mae D. Belardo (Sorsogon City Campus)
Treasurer: Diana Rose F. Nicol (Bulan Campus)
Auditor: Ralph Laurence M. Janoras (Sorsogon City Campus)
Public Relations Officer: Soc Gillian D. Bailon (Magallanes Campus)
Business Managers: Zedrick D. Escobedo (Castilla Campus) and Janna S. Gabillo (Bulan Campus)


Moreover, in her message, SorSU President De Jesus underscored to the student officers the essential skills and values of a true servant leader, highlighting the importance of punctuality, time management, balancing academic and curricular activities, maintaining a proactive presence, and embodying humility, among others.


She likewise expressed the administration’s unwavering support for student-led undertakings and activities, emphasizing the vital role of these initiatives in fostering an academic community that champions overall student experience and holistic development.


Further, Incumbent USC President Erwin Formento provided the turnover speech, while the message of acceptance was delivered by Newly Elected USC President Alfred P. Gabelo. During the activity, the incumbent USC officers were also formally acknowledged for their unparalleled service and leadership and received certificates of recognition.


In her closing remarks, Prof. Ma. Gina J. Mendones (Head, Student Council Affairs) emphasized the importance of united goals, collective effort, and shared commitment to serve the SorSUeno students — “Wala nang ako, ikaw, at siya, dapat tayo na lang ang meron.”


Alongside Prof. Jucelyn B. Ombao (Student Development and Services Coordinator, Sorsogon City Campus), Mr. Robert Buban (Student Development and Services Coordinator, Magallanes Campus), and Prof. Achilles G. Honasan (Adviser, Supreme Student Council- Castilla Campus), the activity was also attended by Supreme Student Council Officers from the four University campuses. (SorSU PIO)
