OVPAA, HRMDO capacitate select SorSU faculty through Enhancing Teaching Excellence: A Future-Focused Two-Day Trainers’ Workshop on OBE Syllabus, Teaching Methods, and Assessment Tools seminar-training
With the primary aim to empower faculty members with essential, future-focused skills in crafting outcome-based education (OBE) syllabi, innovative teaching methodologies, and AI-integrated assessment tools, Sorsogon State University (SorSU), through the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA) and the Human Resource Management and Development Office (HRMDO), successfully spearheaded a two-day seminar-workshop called Enhancing Teaching Excellence: A Future-Focused Two-Day Trainers’ Workshop on OBE Syllabus, Teaching Methods, and Assessment Tools from January 21-22, 2025, at the SorSU Audio-Visual, Sorsogon City Campus.
Featuring a lineup of esteemed faculty-researchers serving as resource speakers, the two-day seminar-workshop commenced with an opening message from Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs), followed by an overview of the activities provided by Ms. Camila Monet D. Jaylo (Administrative Officer III).
The activity covered four sessions, including Unlocking the Basics of AI in Education: Trends and Challenges by Mr. Renz Alvin E. Gabay, AI-Driven Innovative and Future-Ready Teaching Methodologies by Dr. Aaron A. Funa, Crafting Adaptive and Dynamic Assessment Tools with AI by Prof. Nestor L. Lasala, Jr., and Empowering Trainers: AI-Driven Outcomes-Based Syllabus Creation by Prof. Jordan M. Pocaan. In addition, VPAA Ricafort provided a brief review session on Table of Specifications (TOS) preparation on Day 2.
Each session concluded with a Q&A segment, providing an avenue for the participants to seek clarification and additional insights into the role and appropriate usage of AI in academic settings. Moreover, the participants also engaged in a group workshop session, particularly revising course syllabi with the integration and utilization of AI tools. Their outputs were critiqued by the resource speakers and the VPAA.
The event culminated with a post-test taken by the participants. Prof. Abner L. Dellosa (Head, HRMDO) delivered the closing remarks.
Notably, the participants will serve as the trainers for their respective colleges in an upcoming similar workshop activity, sharing the knowledge they gained during the two-day seminar-training. (SorSU PIO)
