PathFit 4: Kicks Off Mini Tournament with the theme “Serve, Rally, Lead: Championing Excellence and Wellness through Sports”

In today’s dynamic academic environment, important aspects of students’ lives are often overlooked, including physical wellness and leadership development. On May 16–17, 2025, the PathFit 4: Mini Tournament showcased why these areas deserve the spotlight. With the theme “Serve, Rally, Lead: Championing Excellence and Wellness through Sports,” second-year BS Accountancy, BS Tourism Management, and BS Hospitality Management students from the College of Business and Management demonstrated that university life should not revolve solely around textbooks and lectures—but also around rackets and nets.

This Mini-Tournament is held in accordance with CHED Memorandum Order No. 39, s. 2021, which revises the framework for Tertiary Physical Education and reinforces the commitment to developing lifelong engagement in physical activity while empowering a healthy, active, and socially responsible student body. It also makes a significant contribution to the advancement of key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, peace and strong institutions, and partnerships through inter-program collaboration.

The students not only learned how to serve, rally and lead but also discovered the value of teamwork, perseverance and sportsmanship with the dedicated direction of their PathFit 4 Instructor, Mr. Roy O. Jarlego, MAPE. The event was made possible by the support of the incredible program chairs of BSA, BSTM, and BSHM–namely Mr. Roman Julio O. Infante, CPA, MSA, Ms. Frida Mae R. Anchos, MBA, and Mr. Aunel Dinglasan, MBA–as well as the guidance of the ever-supportive dean of the CBM, Prof. Maria Claire M. Dicen, DBA.

As we recognize the commitment and hard work of the players, it is also important to commend the initiative of the faculty officials of Pickleball particularly Ms. Jeah M. Alipio, Ms. Johnne Erika O. Famorcan, and Ms. Charmaine A. Janoras from SorSU Castilla Campus, Magallanes Campus, and Bulan Campus, the student officials of volleyball, specifically Steve B. Toriaga, Eula E. Estera, Jeosa B. Bergantinos, Jeric B. Rosales, Sarhandie Mae D. Fababaer, Rose Kimberly C. Aranda, and the PathFit 4 Student Committees who exerted hundred percent of their effort and made their last PathFit event a success.

Experience is the best teacher, and as Billie Jean King said, “Sport teaches you character, it teaches you to play by the rules, it teaches you to know what it feels like to win and lose—it teaches you about life.” (CBM)
