SEAMREEC 2025: Day 3 engages participants in plenary talk, closing keynote speech on Southeast Asian perspectives on sustainable development

On Day 3 of SEAMREEC 2025, participants engaged in a compelling plenary talk on “Collaborating across Worldviews: Decolonizing Knowledge Production in Southeast Asian Research Partnerships” by Dr. Rosa Cordillera A. Castillo (Professor of Public Anthropology, University of Bremen, Germany) as well as an equally insightful closing keynote speech on “The Four Cs in Action: Southeast Asian Perspectives on Sustainable Development” by Dr. Georgia Hart-Fredeluces (Assistant Professor, Idaho State University, USA).

In her talk, Dr. Castillo underscored the need for researchers and educators to break the humanness of hierarchy imposed by the legacies of colonialism. She remarked, “We should produce knowledge that is accountable. We owe a lot to the communities we work with. We are all possessors of knowledge.”

An open forum provided attendees the opportunity to pose queries and seek clarifications following the plenary talks. Additionally, the morning session featured parallel discussions across various tracks, including Track 3: Education, Track 4: Agri-fisheries and Natural Resources, Track 6: Humanities and Social Science, and Track 7: Extension Projects, with venues at the Sorsogon Convention Center-Main Room, SorSU E-library, The People’s Mansion, and SorSU-Dormtel, respectively.
