Silver for SorSU: Civil Engineering Students Shine in National Competition

Civil Engineering students Mansour J. Ativo and Cleo Glen G. Barrera demonstrated their expertise and analytical prowess at SysQuiz 2025, held on March 28, 2025, at the Sy^2 Campus in Makati City. Representing Sorsogon State University (SorSU), they secured the 1st Runner-Up spot in the prestigious structural engineering competition.

Competing against 65 participants from 34 schools nationwide, Ativo earned an impressive 2nd place finish, while Barrera secured 10th place in the Structural Quiz event. Their stellar performance earned SorSU a silver medal in the individual competition.

SysQuiz 2025, organized by Sy^2 Associates, Inc., is a premier structural engineering competition designed for undergraduate students. The event aims to foster camaraderie among future professionals while recognizing exceptional talent in the field. The competition featured two main events:

Structural Quiz – an individual event
Design and Build Competition – a team event.


SorSU also extends its congratulations to Joshua L. de los Reyes, Ben Matthew A. Co, and Kristofferson D. Ponce, who represented the university in the Design and Build Competition.


“This was our first time joining SysQuiz,” shared Engr. Jerry Jake June Hayagan, the team’s coach. “To top it off, we finished as 1st Runner-Up! We give thanks to the Lord for this victory.”
