Sorsogon State University – Sorsogon City Campus Opens as Evacuation Center for 800 Evacuees Affected by Typhoon Pepito

Sorsogon State University (SorSU) – Sorsogon City Campus has opened its doors and classrooms as an evacuation center for residents of Salog and nearby barangays in preparation for Typhoon Pepito. The campus began welcoming evacuees on November 15, 2024. To date, Sorsogon City Campus is currently providing shelter to 800 evacuees from neighboring communities.

Approved by University President, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, and led by SorSU-Sorsogon City Campus Director, Dr. Telesforo Escoto and Prof. Saturnino Carranza, Director of Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM), SorSU’s ROTC, RYCY, Kalasag ng SorSU Student Volunteers (KSSVO) and DRRM volunteers are actively assisting evacuees, together with SorSU’s General Services, Velocity Services, Canteen Concessionaires. The College of Technology’s student council officers are providing food assistance, while the Safety and Security team, headed by Mr. Francis Antonio, is ensuring the safety of evacuees and the protection of university property.


As of 11:00 AM, the latest update from PAGASA indicates that the northeastern portion of Sorsogon, including Prieto Diaz, Sorsogon City, and Gubat, is now under Storm Signal No. 3. Wind speeds in these areas are expected to range from 89 to 117 km/h. As Typhoon Pepito intensifies into a Super Typhoon, authorities urge everyone to take immediate precautionary measures to protect lives and property. (SorSU PIO)
