SorSU Architecture student Justin Golloso, among the National Finalists at the 56th Shell National Students Art Competition

Sorsogon State University Bachelor of Science in Architecture student, Mr. Justin R. Golloso landed Top 25 in the 56th Shell National Student Art Competition (NSAC) making him a 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐬𝐭 from the said event which opened last June 26, 2023 and awarding ceremony on November 28, 2023.

Centered on the theme, “𝙂𝙖𝙡í𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙮, 𝙂𝙖𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙋𝙞𝙣𝙤𝙮”, the 56th Shell National Student Art Competition aims to highlight local ingenuity and progress as well as to showcase how respective communities empowered people, uplifted the environment, and made a positive impact in the world. The submission of entries was conducted as early as June 26, 2023 to October 6, 2023 with the final screening conducted on November 9-11, 2023, and the awarding on November 28, 2023.

The NSAC is one of the longest-running art competitions in the Philippines which started in 1951 upon the quest to make art accessible to the public and showcase the rich Philippine art by young artists.

Mr. Golloso is one of the 2,900 participants across the Philippines who competed in the NSAC which has categories such as Oil/Acrylic, Watercolor, Sculpture, Photography, and Digital Fine Arts. His nationally recognized watercolor painting titled “𝐀𝐍 𝐊𝐀𝐆𝐔𝐃𝐀𝐍 𝐍𝐀 𝐃𝐀𝐄𝐍𝐆 𝐊𝐀𝐒𝐀𝐆𝐊𝐎𝐑𝐀𝐍” featured a local vendor using a “𝘒𝘢𝘨𝘶𝘥𝘢𝘯” – a tool used in shredding/grating coconut meat primarily used in Bicol Region. He described the entry as “𝘋𝘦𝘧𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘦𝘴, 𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘥𝘴𝘵 𝘢 𝘸𝘰𝘳𝘭𝘥 𝘰𝘧 𝘢𝘶𝘵𝘰𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘭 𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘰𝘳 𝘸𝘩𝘰𝘴𝘦 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘶𝘢𝘭 𝘤𝘰𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘳𝘦𝘥𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘢 𝘵𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘵𝘰 𝘶𝘯𝘱𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘭𝘦𝘥 𝘥𝘦𝘥𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯, 𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘦𝘥 – 𝘲𝘶𝘢𝘭𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘺𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘴 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩.” Golloso expressed the painting as a reflection of effort, resilience and commitment leading the path to excellence.

On October 27, 2023, Golloso visited the Office of the SorSU President and met with Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus where he showcased his masterpiece and the inspiration behind it. Sorsogon State University through its Administration and Academic Affairs Office continually encourages and supports students’ development in honing their talents and skills in the field of arts.
