SorSU-BC’s Erwin Formento elected as University Student Council President of SorSU; new officers signify commitment through ceremonial oath taking 

With the heart to serve SorSUeños and the community, the new set of University Student Council (USC) Officers was proclaimed with Mr. Erwin Formento of SorSU Bulan Campus as the newly elected President of the 2023 USC Elections on September 22, 2023 at the SorSU E-Library, Sorsogon CIty Campus. 

Other elected officers, namely Mr. Rico Mandia Jr. (Vice President); Ms. Pauline Joy Frago (Secretary); Ms. Kyrynn Balaoro (Treasurer); Mr. Ian Evasco (Auditor); Mr. John Eliseo Chia (Public Relations Officer);  Mr. Jay R Advincula and Ms. Christine Mendoza (Business Managers) complete the new set of the USC which shall serve as the governing body representing the SorSUeños welfare and interests. The council shall also strive to promote cooperation and initiative, along with developing positive social attitudes, participate actively in school activities, nurture cultural well-being and ensure order and discipline within the school community.

After the proclamation of newly elected officers, an oath taking took place, marking the start of the term of the new student governing body. Next, President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus gave an inspiring message to the council. She appreciated the council for the activities they produce and encouraged the student leaders to be creative and innovative in events they will organize in the future, since the University strives to be visibly active not only in the provincial level, but also the regional, national and international spheres. 

Dr. De Jesus also advised the 30 student leaders who took part in the voting process to work together as a team, she said “You are leaders (and) you were chosen by your respective campuses to lead the students, and it entails a lot of responsibility… the students will look up to you therefore you have to work as a team and communicate effectively with each other”. 

Furthermore, student leaders were given an opportunity via open forum to share insights and questions to the President and to the Office of the Student Development Service Director, Prof. Crisanta M. Jarque on matters regarding the student council. (SorSU PIO)

The Sorsogon State University – University Student Council primary function is to unite Sorsogon State University students into a common understanding of the problems concerning all SorSU campuses. It is pivotal in recognizing the vital role of the Sorsogon State University students into nation building.
