Sorsogon State University fourth-year Bachelor of Special Needs Education (BSNED) student, Christine Faye L. Garcia, was hailed as one of the Ten Outstanding Student Teachers in Region V, ranking no. 1 for Elementary level during the 2023 Search for the Ten Outstanding Student Teachers (TOST) in Bicol Region.
The TOST competition was among the highlights of the 2023 Bicol Regional Student Teachers’ Congress, bannering the theme: “𝙂𝙚𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙏𝙤𝙬𝙖𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚-𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙𝙮 𝙏𝙚𝙖𝙘𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙀𝙙𝙪𝙘𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙂𝙧𝙖𝙙𝙪𝙖𝙩𝙚𝙨”, to be held on May 25, 2023, at Legazpi City Convention Center, Legazpi City.
Participated by 22 colleges and universities (both private and public), the nominees were required to submit their e-portfolio featuring their best outputs in Field Study 1, Field Study 2, and Teaching Internship. The Board of Judges, after the perusal of the e-portfolio, shortlisted 20 finalists (10 each from the elementary and secondary levels) who were subject to 20-minute face-to-face demonstration teaching (field of specialization) followed by an on-site panel interview. Subsequently, the top 5 in the elementary category and the top 5 in the secondary level category were declared as the Ten Outstanding Student Teachers (TOTS) in Bicol, in which Garcia was hailed as ranked 1 among the top 5 winners for the elementary level.
