True its unwavering commitment as the “Pamantasang May Puso,” Sorsogon State University, through SorSU – Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) Unit (under the supervision of 505th CDC), led by Ms. Mary Rose B. Lacdang (NSTP Coordinator, Sorsogon City Campus), together with SorSU – College of Technology (COT) faculty members, Sosogon Eagles Club, LGU Gimaloto Women’s Group, and Sangguniang Kabataan of Gimaloto, volunteered in a solidarity and concerted effort to clean and clear approximately 12-14 inches of mud and other remaining typhoon debris at Gimaloto Elementary School, Gimaloto, Sorsogon City, Sorsogon, held on October 27, 2024. This initiative was in response to the onslaught and aftermath of Typhoon Kristine, which devastated the province and the entire Bicol Region last October 22, 2024.
Gimaloto Elementary School is one of the areas that was severely impacted by the typhoon, where floodwaters damaged/destroyed the school’s learning resources, including computers and printers.
Despite the rainy weather, the volunteers exhibited dedication and perseverance in clearing the mud from the school grounds. Although the intermittent downpour caused a more challenging environment in their clearing operations, they worked in teams to shovel and remove the mud that had accumulated from the recent storm — fostering a spirit of camaraderie and a united community.
The administration commends the initiative of the officers and members of the SorSU-ROTC Unit, headed by NSTP Coordinator Ms. Lacdang, as well as the SorSU-COT faculty members, for their enthusiasm and commitment to extending help to Gimaloto Elementary School.
SorSU is steadfast in its mission of providing support and assistance to its stakeholders and community members, underscoring the value and power of community service, civic engagement, and volunteerism, especially in times of crisis. (MRBL & SorSU PIO)
