Sorsogon State University – Castilla Campus (SorSU-CC) conducted a formal in-person orientation session on November 26, 2024, at the Farmers Training Center AV Hall, aimed at thoroughly preparing fourth-year Agricultural Technology Students for their upcoming On-the-Job Training (OJT) and Occupational Internship Practice. The event was spearheaded by the SorSU Industrial Linkages Development Office (ILDO).
The event commenced with an address delivered by SorSU Castilla Campus Director, Prof. Andrew F. Detera, who underscored the importance of professionalism and accountability as fundamental qualities for a successful internship experience. Prof. Lelanie L. Berjuega, Head of the Career and Job Placement/Industrial Linkages Development Office (ILDO), provided an extensive overview of the OJT programme, highlighting key policies, guidelines, and expectations for participating students.
Health Services Coordinator, Ms. Helen L. Sicad, elaborated on the required medical examinations, emphasizing the importance of ensuring students’ physical readiness for their placements. Concurrently, Ms. Ailyn Bertumen, ILDO Coordinator, introduced a curated list of potential internship partners, which included notable organisations such as the Philippine Rice Research Institute (PhilRice), the Philippine Centre for Postharvest Development and Mechanisation (PhilMech), and Sweet Spring Country Farm. She also stressed the necessity of adhering to submission deadlines and cultivating essential attributes such as discipline, proactiveness, and a positive mindset.
The session concluded with an inspirational message from SDS Coordinator Mrs. Melody L. Llabres, who urged students to seek divine guidance, exhibit teamwork, and uphold appropriate conduct throughout their internship experience. Parents were also encouraged to actively support their children’s journey during this pivotal phase of their academic progression.
This orientation session serves as a testament to SorSU-CC’s commitment to equipping its students with the knowledge, skills, and mindset necessary to embark on a transformative and enriching internship experience, effectively bridging the gap between academic learning and professional application.
