To spiritually celebrate the culmination of the graduating SorSUenos’ academic journey in the institution, Sorsogon State University (SorSU) hosted a solemn university-wide Baccalaureate Mass & Solidarity Candle Lighting Ceremony, attended by students of the Class of 2025, SorSU officials, faculty, and non-teaching personnel across four campuses on June 27, 2025, at the Balogo Sports Complex, Sorsogon City.
The ceremony began with a solemn mass presided over by Most Rev. Jose Allan V. Dialogo, joined by co-celebrating priests, including Msgr. Felix B. Elegado, Jr., Fr. Jemuel B. Gepiga, and Fr. Gershom J. Colico. Following the mass, a short program for the Solidarity Candle Lighting Ceremony featured the presentation of graduating students, faculty, and non-teaching personnel as well as an audio-visual presentation called Memories of Academic Journey and Words of Gratitude by Mr. Jaime M. Laura (BSED-Filipino) and Mr. Manuel V. Silencio (Student Regent & USC President).
In her inspirational message, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, urged the graduates to reflect on SorSU’s Core Values: Humility, Excellence, Accountability, Resilience, and Trustworthiness. The President encouraged them to consider different ways to integrate these principles in the next stages of their lives as career professionals and responsible citizens.
The event highlighted the candle-lighting ceremony within the academic community and a heartfelt rendition of the tribute song “Handog” by the graduating class. The celebration concluded with the signing of uniforms among the graduating students, the singing of the University Hymn, and a visually striking fireworks display.
Despite the intermittent rain, the SorSU Class of 2025’s baccalaureate mass and candle-lighting ceremonies were a heartfelt celebration. Filled with nostalgia, the event marked a significant milestone in the graduates’ academic journey, carrying with them the Core Values of SorSU as they embark on their future endeavors.
