SorSU COEA-ACES hosts Bicol Reg’l Civil Engineering Students’ Summit 2024; SorSU President De Jesus extends support

Centered on the theme, “MONTECIV: Assembling Visions and Constructing Futures of Bicolano Civil Engineering Minds for Innovation, Collaboration, and Sustainable Progress,” Sorsogon State University (SorSU), through the College of Engineering and Architecture – Association of Civil Engineering Students (COEA-ACES), successfully hosted the three-day Bicol Regional Civil Engineering Students’ Summit (RCESS) 2024, which brought together Civil Engineering (CE) students and faculty members across the region, held from November 29 – December 1, 2024, with various locations at SorSU-Sorsogon City Campus and in Sorsogon City, Sorsogon.

In her message during the opening program, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, underscored the importance of fostering strong partnerships and collaborations among the participating universities and colleges, acknowledging that such initiatives are vital for enhancing the learning experiences of CE students.


SorSU President De Jesus highlighted, “In this summit, we hope that connections between and among our universities and colleges are further strengthened with the collaboration of student organizations through sports and other activities. We have to emphasize that there is no competition nor rivalries between our institutions, but we have to cooperate and assist each other to enhance the civil engineering program and the profession.”


Led by SorSU COEA-ACES, the three-day event featured a variety of activities and competitions, comprising RCESS MONTECIV seminar; academic events, such as bridge building competition, tower building competition, Rube Goldberg, egg drop, decoded, & material cost estimation; special events: bench cheering competition, live painting competition, Photowalk competition, & vlog making contest; Laro ng Lahi contests: batuhang bola, kadang-kadang, tug of war, karera ng sako, Chinese garter, & patintero; cultural events: vocal solo, hip-hop dance competition, & battle of the bands; and sports fest events: basketball, volleyball, badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis, chess, & mobile legends.


This year’s Bicol RCESS was actively joined by a total of 13 participating Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the Bicol Region, including Bicol State College of Applied Sciences and Technology (BISCAST), Bicol University (BU), Camarines Norte State College (CNSC), Camarines Sur Polytechnic Colleges (CSPC), Catanduanes State University (CatSU), Divine Word College of Legazpi (DWCL), Naga College Foundation Inc. (NCF), Partido State University (ParSU), Sorsogon State University (SorSU), University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP), University of Nueva Caceres (UNC), University of Saint Anthony (USANT), and University of Sto.
