Sorsogon State University (SorSU) conducted its 33rd Commencement Exercises on June 9, 2026, at the Sorsogon Convention Center, celebrating the academic achievements of graduates from Castilla Campus and Magallanes Campus.

The ceremony was attended by SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, together with other esteemed university officials, faculty members, non-teaching personnel, parents, and guests, who witnessed the conferment of degrees upon 576 graduates. Of the total number of graduates, 412 completed their programs at Castilla Campus, while 164 earned their degrees at Magallanes Campus.

Guided by the theme, “Class of 2026: Values-Driven Workforce, Digitally Inclined Lifelong Learners,” the commencement exercises highlighted the graduates’ readiness to enter their chosen professions equipped with knowledge, skills, and commitment to lifelong learning.

Delivering the commencement address was Dir. Rodel P. Tornilla (Regional Executive Director, Department of Agriculture RFOV). In his message, he said, “Class of 2026, you are graduating in a world that is fast, unpredictable, and constantly shifting. But you are Bicolanos. Resilience is woven into your DNA. You are built to withstand the wind, the rain, the ash, and the heat. As you leave the hallowed halls of your beloved alma mater, I challenge you: root yourselves deeply in our values, just like the sturdy pili trees of Bicol soil. They bend in the face of the fiercest typhoons, yet they refuse to break.”

A highlight of the ceremony was the recognition of academic excellence through the awarding of honors and medals to outstanding graduates. Diplomas were also presented to the graduating class as they formally completed the requirements of their respective degree programs.

Representing the Class of 2026, Ms. Aila H. Benavides, Magna Cum Laude and Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship graduate, delivered the Words of Gratitude, expressing appreciation to the individuals and institutions that supported the graduates throughout their academic journey.

The graduation rites ended with the singing of the SorSU Hymn, concluding Day 2 of the university’s 33rd Commencement Exercises and celebrating an important achievement of their academic journey.

Salute to the Class of 2026! May this milestone serve as a launching point for greater discoveries, lifelong learning, and contributions that make a difference. (SorSU PIO)
