SorSU confers degrees to 476 COT graduates at 31st Commencement Exercises (Day 2)

With 476 graduates from the College of Technology (COT), Sorsogon State University (SorSU) successfully organized Day 2 (afternoon) of its three-day 31st Commencement Exercises, on June 27, 2024, at the Sorsogon Convention Center, Sorsogon City.

Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, Sorsogon City Campus) presented and certified the candidates for graduation under the College of Technology (COT). Subsequently, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, by the virtue vested upon her by the BOR and upon the certification of Campus Director Escoto, led the official conferment of degrees.


A total of 476 degrees were conferred to the graduates of the Bachelor of Technology (BT) program, specifically: 50 BT-Architectural Drafting; 130 BT-Automotive Technology; 21 BT-Civil Technology; 103 BT-Electrical Technology; 48 BT-Electronics Technology; 5 BT-Food Service Management; 27 BT-Garments Technology; 78 BT-Mechanical Technology; & 14 BT-Welding and Fabrication.


Atty. Septon A. De La Cruz, CESO III (Regional Director, Commission on Higher Education – Regional Office V), the esteemed Guest of Honor, underscored in his commencement address that rather than just competent graduates who can do the job, employers in the contemporary workforce are seeking for versatile individuals who are the embodiment of professionalism. CHED ROV Regional Director further highlighted that based on empirical researches and literature review, a quality graduate who exemplifies versatility and professionalism possesses the following attributes: (1) Intellect & Adaptability; (2) Knowledge; (3) Ability to work in an organization; (4) Interpersonal Skills; & (5) Communication Skills.


He likewise urged the graduates, “The next challenge, hence to exemplifying versatility and professionalism in an era of connectivity is applying your knowledge to live up to a noble and modest work. May you see work not merely as a way of making money but as a form of service to other people and as a realization of your human potentials.”


Meanwhile, alongside the honorees’ respective parents, the awarding of medals to honor students was facilitated by SorSU President De Jesus and Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs, recognizing four (4) Cum Laude graduates under the college. Ms. Airene D. Escario (BT-Architectural Drafting), one of the Latin honorees, delivered the Words of Gratitude among her fellow graduates.


Further, Dr. Perry F. Carpio (President, Faculty Association) and VPAA Ricafort (President, Alumni Association), respectively, led the Pledge of Loyalty and Induction of Graduates to the Alumni Association. A rendition of the SorSU Hymn performed by the graduates marked the culmination of the COT graduation rites.
