SorSU-CoTEdM Spearheads EARTH iCARES Congress: Teacher Education Week 2023

To empower the minds and showcase the professional skills of future educators, the College of Teacher Education and Midwifery (CoTEdM), through its College of Teacher Education – Community-based, Advocacies for Research and Extension Services, is currently conducting its EARTH iCARES (“Engage, Adapt, Revolutionize, Transfer & Harness INTERNALIZATION”) Congress: Teacher Education Week 2023, from May 09-12, 2023, at SorSU – Sorsogon City Campus.

The four-day Teacher Education Week 2023, headed by Dr. Alfonso L. Garcia (CoTED-Dean and Overall Chair Committee of Educ Week 2023), commenced with the ‘𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐋𝐎𝐓𝐔𝐒 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞’ (Localized Tutorial Services) yesterday, May 09, 2023, showcasing the accomplishments of CoTEd student extensionists on providing free tutorial services to struggling learners on basic education. The evaluators for the 1st LOTUS contest were Engr. Joy J. Labo, Prof. Ada J. Escopete, and Prof. Beatriz D. Guarte.

Project LOTUS (Localized Tutorial Services) is a home-based tutorial initiative of CoTEd faculty members and students that aims to extend aid to tutees or students in bridging learning gaps and improving their learning/academic performance, as well as provide avenues and opportunities to pre-service teachers on their experiential learning experience by applying the concepts and theories learned in the classroom to real-life teaching situations.

On the other hand, a simultaneous ‘𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐨 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐚𝐥’ is today’s key event of the weeklong activity of the College, intending to assess the teaching proficiency of CoTEd future educators. The evaluators for the Demo Fest were the following: Ms. Marites Dicen, Ms. Kristel Ann L. Dipad, and Mr. Vener Jeresano for BEED; Mr. Nestor Guardian, Mr. Baden Alner Domasig, Ms. April Catherine Camposano for BSNED; Mr. Franklyn Vargas, Mr. Richard Elemanco, and Mr. Sigfred Deyto for BCAED; Mr. Eric Lasam, Mr. Jestonie Furio, and Florissa D. Esquejo for BPED; Mr. Markson B. Mejia, Ms. Ella Figuerras, Ms. Sonia Aninipot for Mathematics; Ms. Marie Emie Rodriguez, Ms. Kathryn Karmen Leander, and Mr. Edgardo Bungcag for Sciences; Mr. Junjie Balidoy, Mr. Renante Alamo, and Ms. Ellen Tatel for Filipino; Prof. Beatriz D. Guarte, Ms. Fe S. Romero, and Mr. Michael Dichoso for FSM; Ms. Rochelle F. Dioneda, Ms. Jean Carrol C. Antonio, and Ms. Maria Carla H. Aguilar for English; Mr. Arnold D. Esmeña, Ms. Jocelyn G. Esmeña, and Mr. Jhubert N. Oarde for BTVTED-Electrical; and Mr. Roleen Conde, Mr. Leo Jalmasco, and Mr. Dexter Aurelio for BTVTED-Automotive.

Other activities during Teacher Education Week 2023 also include the ‘𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐮𝐦’ on May 11, 2023, to be held at SorSU eLibrary, Library Cafe, & SorSU Dormtel Conference Rooms and ‘𝐂𝐨𝐓𝐄𝐝 & 𝐏𝐓 𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐬𝐭’ on May 12, 2023, at Education Bldg., Room 206.

Moreover, one of the highlights on Day 4 of the event is the ’𝐄𝐃𝐔𝐂𝐀-𝐓𝐎𝐔𝐑: 𝘼 𝙅𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙣𝙚𝙮 𝙤𝙛 𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙙𝙚 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙀𝙭𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙡𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚’, exhibiting various booths of respective programs in the College, which aims to celebrate and empower all forms of education/learning, to wit: (1) BEEd: “BEEdA Hub” – Room 201; (2) BSNEd: “Diversociety” – Room 202; (3) BPEd/BCAEd: “Tahanan at Tanghalan ng Kultura at Sining” – Room 203; (4) FSM/Auto/Elec: “Tech Powerhouse” – Room 204; (5) BSEd Sciences: “SciSphere” – Room 205; (6) Display Room – Room; BSEd Filipino: “Casa de Filipino” – Room 208; BSEd Math: “Exponent Guild” – Room 209; and BSEd English: “Lit Lounge” – Room 210.

In addition, a short program will also be held prior to the start of Educa-Tour, whereas the evening event of the final day consists of awarding ceremonies for the said competitions and a social dance to culminate Educ Week 2023. Ms. Susan Mae G. Apostol-Jamoralin (BPED/BCAED – Program Chairman), Prof. Jackielyne M. Bosquillos (BEED/BSNEd – Program Chairman), and Prof. Anabell A. Manga (BSED/BTVTEd – Program Chairman) are the focal persons for the 1st LOTUS Conference, Simultaneous Demo Teaching Festival, and 1st Student Research Colloquium, respectively.
