SorSU Delegation’s Benchmarking Initiative in Central Luzon: A Commitment to Excellence

In efforts for continual improvement of University Systems, and exercise the initiative to explore strategic processes of other State Universities and Colleges (SUCs), a delegation from Sorsogon State University (SorSU) embarked on a benchmarking initiative across four universities in Central Luzon from March 24 to 28, 2025.

Led by Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto, Campus Director of SorSU Sorsogon City Campus, and Dr. Jenet B. Fuentes, Director of the Quality Assurance Office, the team visited Tarlac State University (TSU), Pangasinan State University (PSU), Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU), and Central Luzon State University (CLSU). The initiative aimed to gain insights into quality assurance operations, global rankings, accreditations, and the Philippine Quality Awards (PQA).

The nine-member SorSU delegation included Dr. Escoto, Dr. Fuentes, Engr. Dennis M. Mujar (Head, Global Quality Awards, University Rankings, PQA), Mr. Jaymark D. Samson (Head, Program Development and Standards), Dr. Michael John A. Jamora (Executive Assistant, Office of the President), Ms. Janine D. Bitara (Planning Development Officer), Prof. Rialyn L. Dogcol (Faculty, College of Teacher Education), Ms. Camila Manet D. Jaylo (Human Resource Management Office Representative), and Ms. Yodel D. Berdin (SorSU PIO Representative).

Tarlac State University (TSU)
At TSU, the delegation was welcomed by Dr. Nino Corpuz, Director of the Office of Quality Assurance, at the TSU Hotel on the university’s Lucinda Campus. Dr. Corpuz delivered an in-depth presentation on TSU’s PQA journey, detailing its framework, key milestones, and the role of the PQA Committee. The team also toured key facilities and made a brief visit to the TSU College of Teacher Education, where they met Dr. Jasper Jay N. Mendoza (Dean, TSU College of Teacher Education).

Pampanga State Agricultural University (PSAU)
The SorSU team benchmarked PSAU’s Quality Management System Unit, focusing on its strategies for attaining global rankings and PQA Regional Accreditation. The delegation also met PSAU President Dr. Anita G. David and toured the PSAU Tamarind RDE Center, known for its “Aglibut Sweet” tamarind produce.

Pangasinan State University (PSU)
At PSU, the delegation was received by officials from the Office of the Vice President for Quality Assurance, who organized a short program at the DVITC Library in PSU Lingayen. The university presented its best practices and accomplishments, followed by an open forum where the SorSU team engaged in discussions. The delegation also visited the Golden Lion Hotel and was welcomed by PSU President Dr. Elbert M. Galas.

Central Luzon State University (CLSU)
At CLSU, the delegation gained insights into the university’s success in securing ASEAN University Network Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) certification and other international accreditations through its Quality Assurance Office. They were received by CLSU Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ravelina R. Velasco.

The SorSU delegation extends its heartfelt gratitude to TSU President Dr. Arnold E. Velasco, PSU President Dr. Elbert M. Galas, PSAU President Dr. Anita G. David, CLSU President Dr. Evaristo A. Abella, and to all their respective key officials for their warm welcome and generous support in sharing best practices.
