SorSU-DRRMO conducts successful 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill

To enhance the university’s preparedness and response to earthquake emergencies, Sorsogon State University’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (SorSU-DRRMO) actively participated in the 1st Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) on March 13, 2025. The drill saw full participation from teaching and non-teaching personnel, as well as students, across all SorSU campuses.

The event was successfully conducted at each campus, led by the respective Campus Directors: Dr. Telesforo Escoto (Sorsogon City), Prof. Ma. Elena Demdam (Bulan), Prof. Andrew F. Detera (Castilla), and Prof. Lynn C. Mendoza (Magallanes). They were supported by the DRRM Coordinators: Prof. Mark Darell A. Ergina (Sorsogon City), Mr. Christian Paolo V. De Vera (Bulan), Prof. Achilles G. Honasan (Castilla), and Mr. Arvin H. Andes (Magallanes).

Prof. Saturnino F. Carranza, Director of the SorSU-DRRMO, who led the university’s DRRMO in monitoring and supervising the simultaneous drills across the four campuses, emphasized that the recently-concluded activity played a crucial role in further enhancing the safety protocols and emergency response skills of all university stakeholders.

In collaboration with the Local DRRMO counterparts and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), several partner offices also contributed to the success of the drill. These included the SorSU Health Services Unit, Safety and Security Services Unit, the Red Cross Youth Council, as well as the SorSU-ROTC Unit and KAAGAPAY NSTP volunteers, all of whom played active roles during the exercise.

The earthquake drill is part of the university’s goal to create a safer, more resilient campus environment. By regularly engaging in disaster preparedness activities, SorSU continues to prioritize the safety and well-being of its community. (SorSU PIO)
