SorSU employees, student representatives collaborate in Empowerment and Strategic Planning Program — engage in self-care, uplifting exercises; formulate College AOP

To foster a positive work environment, review 2024 achievements, and formulate the 2025 Annual Operational Plan toward improved team dynamics and effective alignment with the University’s strategic direction, Sorsogon State University (SorSU), through the Human Resource Management and Development Office (HRMDO) and in coordination with the Planning Management Office (PLMO), collaboratively engaged the University faculty members, non-teaching personnel, and student representatives in a three-day Empowerment and Strategic Planning Program: Building a Stronger SorSU Sorsogon City Campus for 2025, held from November 7, 8, and 11, 2024, at the Victoria’s Grill, Bacon, Sorsogon City.

The event officially kicked off with a ‘Wellness Quest Bingo’, an exercise involving a bingo card complete with various wellness-related prompts, allowing the participants to interact and connect to match each prompt. In relation, this was followed by an informative talk by Prof. Abner L. Dellosa (Head, HRMDO) on Networking and Building Connections, highlighting the importance of professional networking, key strategies for effective networking, and the relevance of listening in the workplace.

Similarly, participants also engaged in another activity called Poncho of Praise, where they wore poncho-like paper cutouts and wrote positive comments (as well as suggestions for improvement) about one another. Such a brief exercise created a positive and affirming atmosphere at the event, empowering some attendees to share their insights and feelings while partaking in the activity. Afterward, HRMDO Head Prof. Dellosa led the talk session on Building a Positive and Supportive Work Environment in an Organization.

In addition, the morning session also featured key presentations of 2024 accomplishments and challenges, including the 3rd Quarter Accomplishment of Sorsogon City Campus by Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, Sorsogon City Campus), Challenges Identified in Instruction, Research, Extension, & Production by Prof. Ma. Gina J. Mendones, and the 2025 Performance Targets of the University by Ms. Cyrin Mae G. Burton.

Meanwhile, the faculty members per college were assigned into several groups for the afternoon activity that focused on crafting and presenting the College Annual Operation Plan (AOP) 2025, which also included setting performance indicators and resource allocations. The student representatives likewise presented their planned events and activities for 2025.

Along with selected Sorsogon City Campus coordinators, non-teaching staff, and student representatives, the three-day event also comprised faculty members as participants. Day 1 featured faculty members from the College of Technology (COT) and the College of Business and Management (CBM), while Day 2 involved teaching personnel from the College of Teacher Education, Midwifery, Biology, and Nursing (CoTEdMBN) and the College of Engineering and Architecture (COEA). Day 3, scheduled for November 11, 2024, will be attended by deans, coordinators, program chairs, selected non-teaching personnel, and other stakeholders.

Such an initiative demonstrates the University’s unparalleled commitment to cultivating a positive, supportive, and collaborative work culture, while also equipping its members for both challenges and opportunities in the future. (SorSU PIO)
