To orient/reorient the SorSUeno graduate students on academic GS policies and services, Sorsogon State University – Graduate School (SorSU-GS) successfully organized a one-day Students’ Orientation on January 25, 2025, at the SorSU Audio-Visual Hall, Sorsogon City Campus.
The orientation began with a welcome message from Dr. Ritzelda A. Deri (GS Coordinator, SDS), followed by the acknowledgment of the Graduate School students per program by Dr. Felisa D. Marbella (Director, SWK).
SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, also graced the orientation, extending a warm welcome to all the attendees. In her message, SorSU President De Jesus mentioned that pursuing graduate studies – whether at the master’s or doctorate level – is very challenging, noting that based on her experience, she really had to exert a lot of effort in balancing her teaching loads, family duties, and her studies.
However, the SorSU President encouraged the GS students to persevere despite the difficulty of the seemingly interminable list of readings, reports, papers, deadlines, and criticisms — compounded by occupational and domestic concerns. She remarked, “I advise you to never give up but instead learn to be resourceful and resilient if you really want to earn your master’s or doctorate degree that you can be truly proud of because of the blood, sweat, and tears you have shed for it.”
Similarly, Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs), in his message, urged the GS students to complete their graduate studies with commitment and determination.
Meanwhile, the presentation of the regular and part-time GS faculty was facilitated by Dr. Susan F. Astillero (GS Coordinator, Research and IRO), while the GS-SSG officers, headed by Ms. Lourdes D. Marmol (GS-SSG President), introduced themselves to the GS students.
Further, Part II of the orientation featured various GS services, including audio-visual presentations (AVPs) of Library Services, Registration Services, Health Services, and Guidance and Counseling Services. On the other hand, the academic GS policies on Cost Recovery Courses, Turnitin Similarity Report, Admission Requirements for EdD, Publication Requirement for Graduation, Flexible Enrollment for TW and DW, Residence Rule, and Outstanding Graduate were likewise presented.
An open forum segment allowed the attendees to ask queries and seek clarifications regarding the policies and services discussed. The activity concluded with a closing message from Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, SorSU-Sorsogon City Campus). (SorSU PIO)
