The second-year and third-year students of the Bachelor of Culture and Arts Education (BCAED) program under the College of Teacher Education, Sorsogon State University, participated in a guitar workshop held from December 4-6, 2024, at SorSU Dormtel, Sorsogon City. The event, organized by Prof. Lizel D. Lerios, provided students with valuable hands-on experience that complemented their theoretical studies and enhanced their ability to interpret music as a form of communication and creativity.
The workshop began with opening remarks from Prof. Lerios and proceeded with a series of instructional lessons led by Mr. Cyrus L. Moratalla (Music Director, Pilar Comprehensive National High School, Pilar, Sorsogon). These sessions covered basic note reading, rhythm and melody, the anatomy of the guitar, fingering techniques, and how to play chords.
A key highlight of the event was the recital on the final day, where students performed Prelude Etnika and Joyful Tidings, both arranged by Mr. Moratalla. This workshop is part of the university’s commitment to providing students with practical training and performance opportunities that promote Filipino music and culture.
The university also appreciates the invaluable support of SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs), Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, Sorsogon City Campus), Dr. Alfonso L. Garcia, Jr. (Dean, CoTed), Prof. Susan Mae A. Jamoralin (Program Chair, BPED/BCAED), faculty, parents, BCAED students and Ms. Noemi B. Lumbao (School Principal II, Pilar Comprehensive National High School) in making the event a success.
Through initiatives like this, the Pamantasang May Puso continues to equip its students with the skills and knowledge needed to contribute to the cultural and artistic heritage of the Philippines. (SorSU PIO)
