SorSU IPTBM organizes Intellectual Property Caravan across the four campuses

The Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management (IP-TBM) Unit of Sorsogon State University has organized IP on the Move: The Intellectual Property Caravan across the four campuses on July 11, 18, 25 & 31, 2024. With an aim to improve and strengthen the management of IP assets of the University, the activity provides the faculty and staff particularly the technology generators with the information and resources necessary to safeguard their concepts, research, and other academic outputs worthy for intellectual property protection.

The team prepares specialized discussion on IP creation matched to the program concentration of each campus. Engr. Ivy Rose B. Gonzales, ORD Director discussed the potentials of ICT-related research into patentable computer-implemented invention in Bulan Campus on July 11, 2024. Likewise, she tackled the possible IP assets in blue economy in Magallanes Campus on July 18, 2024. Similarly, the discussion focused on turning agricultural intervention into a patentable invention in Castilla Campus on July 25, 2024. Also, the topics for Sorsogon City Campus on July 31, 2024, were all about the potential IP in the field of technology, business, and engineering.


As the team continued to reiterate the concepts, guidelines & requirements on intellectual property protection application, Prof. Jezzabie G. Gamis, IPTBM Unit Head shares to the participants the core concepts on the different type of intellectual property. Afterwards, focus group discussion on the utilization and commercialization of the protected or registered IP were led by Prof. Romeo SE Mendoza, Business Affairs Director. As the IP-TBM adapt for easier and accessible institutional submission of IP application, Ms. Sheryl Solano, IPTBM staff introduced the online mode of submission of IP applications. Thereafter, the participants were given the opportunity to ask questions and clarification during the open forum.


Moreover, the conduct of intellectual property caravan across the four campuses were successfully completed resulting to several submissions for IP applications. As the IPTBM Unit is committed to assisting the faculty, staff, and students in protecting their IP assets, inputs from the participants were noted to improve the process in IPR protection and commercialization of the research and other intellectual outputs.
