Sorsogon State University (SorSU), led by University President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, proudly participated in the 127th Philippine Independence Day celebration held on June 12, 2025, at the Sorsogon Provincial Capitol Grounds. The event was organized by the Provincial Government of Sorsogon, under the leadership of Governor Edwin “Boboy” B. Hamor and Vice Governor Krunimar Antonio D. Escudero II, in collaboration with the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA).
Representing SorSU alongside Dr. De Jesus were key university officials: Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort – Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ryan V. Dio – Vice President for Research, Extension & Training, and Dr. Telesforo Escoto and Prof. Andrew Detera – Campus Directors for Sorsogon City and Castilla, respectively. Their presence underscored SorSU’s ongoing commitment to civic engagement and support for national celebrations that honor Philippine history and identity.
The ceremony featured traditional flag-raising and wreath-laying rites, followed by messages of patriotism and unity delivered by provincial leaders. The event brought together local government units, national agencies, civil society groups, and academic institutions in a show of solidarity and respect for the country’s independence.
