SorSU Magallanes Campus Celebrates National Women’s Month with Inspiring Series of Events

Celebration of the 2025 National Women’s Month March 26, 2025
The SorSU Magallanes Campus kicked off its culminating celebration of the 2025 National Women’s Month with the theme “Babae sa Lahat ng Sektor, Aangat at Bukas sa Bagong Pilipinas.” The first day featured a robust seminar hosted by PSSG Jacqueline H. Verzola from the Magallanes PNP who presented insights on Republic Act 11930, also known as the Anti-Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) Law. Prof. Abel Arevalo Jr. spoke about RA 11313, the Safe Spaces Act, also referred to as the “Bawal Bastos” Law, which aims to protect individuals especially women and members of the LGBTQ+ community from gender-based sexual harassment in both public and online spaces. The event was an engaging and meaningful dialogues about women’s empowerment.


In the afternoon, students showcased their talents through various competitions, including spoken poetry, extemporaneous speaking, poster-making, a slogan contest, role-playing, and a quiz bee.


Coastal Clean-up Drive & Beauty and Wellness Fair for Women March 27, 2025
The second day of activities was dedicated to a Coastal Clean-up Drive, with participation from all first-year National Service Training Program (NSTP) students. They covered several Barangays, including Cawit Proper, Aguada Norte, and Central Poblacion, contributing to environmental sustainability while fostering community spirit.


In a celebration of beauty and wellness, the day also featured a “Beauty and Wellness Fair for Women,” offering free nail and hair services, along with relaxing massage sessions for SorSU personnel and students. Prof. Abel Arevalo Jr., the Gender and Development (GAD) Coordinator, emphasized that these initiatives honor the strength, resilience, and invaluable contributions of women on campus, stating, “Every woman deserves to feel valued and appreciated.”


HERstory ParadeMarch 28, 2025
The celebrations continued with the vibrant HERstory Parade, enhanced by the enthusiastic performances of the SorSU Marching Band along with the faculty, staff and students as they marched through the municipality. In the afternoon, the university held an awarding ceremony to recognize the winners of various competitions, further highlighting the talents and creativity of the students.

The SorSU Magallanes Campus community extends its heartfelt gratitude to several key individuals and groups for their unwavering support in making the recent events a resounding success. Particularly thankful to the ever dedicated President, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, for continued support and guidance.


The Magallanes PNP for their readiness to serve. Hon. Mayor Ma. Elena Mencias Ragrario and the LGU Magallanes for the partnership. Ms. Cynthia G. Extramadura, HRMO – PESO, Magallanes, for coordinating the talented masseurs, hairdressers, and nail care experts who pampered the attendees. The SorSU Marching Band for enhancing the celebrations with their vibrant performances, and to Pixels Photography for capturing these memorable moments with SorSU ladies. SorSU Security Personnel, the NSTP Implementers, and the Barangay Chairpersons of Cawit Proper, Cawit Extension, Aguada Norte, and Central Poblacion for their invaluable assistance and cooperation.

This three-day event was organized by Prof. Abel Arevalo Jr., Gender and Development Coordinator. The Student Development Services, under the leadership of Prof. Robert G. Buban and the Supreme Student Council, led by Manuel Selencio Jr.,USC President.
With each day’s events designed to empower and uplift women, SorSU Magallanes Campus stands firm in its commitment to celebrating and recognizing the important role of women in all sectors of society.


Meanwhile, a Time for March madness Campus Clean-up Drive was also conducted in the afternoon by the employees and students along the campus premises. This endeavor is done every Friday of the month for a cleaner and greener campus.
