SorSU Magallanes Campus spearheads 1st Fisheries Undergraduate Research, Development and Extension Colloquium (FURDEC)

Sorsogon State University Magallanes Campus conducts the 1st Fisheries Undergraduate Research, Development and Extension Colloquium (FURDEC) with the theme “Nurturing Fisheries Professionals in Research and Extension Capabilities towards Excellence” today, June 7, 2023, at the SorSU MC Auditorium. 

The event was attended by Dr. Ryan V. Dio, Vice President for Research, Extension and Training, the Honorable Mayor Maria Elena Ramona M. Ragragio of Magallanes, Dr. Plutumeo M. Nieves and Dr. Antonino B. Mendoza Jr. of Bicol University Tabaco Campus, SorSU-MC Campus Director Prof. Lynn C. Mendoza, Prof. Christine H. Ferolino, Director for Research Development, Dr. Ana Christina G. Fortes, Director of the Extension Services, and Prof. Romeo SE. Mendoza, Director of Business Affairs, together with the fourth year Bachelor of Science in Fisheries presenters, students, parents, and stakeholders.

This event aims to showcase the competing academic papers of the Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences fourth year graduating students and allow panelists to assess and aid in the enhancement of their research papers. 

The 1st FURDEC featured five competing student research papers and three extension presentations. Awards such as Best Research Paper, Best Research Presenter, Best Extension Poster Presentation, and Best Extension Presenter will be given to students who performed well in the colloquium.

Furthermore, in its vision to be a Research University, SorSU intensifies its activities geared towards its research centered goals and to develop the research initiatives in the field of fisheries that will significantly help improve the Municipality of Magallanes and beyond.
