The Sorsogon State University Marching Band and Majorettes successfully conducted its annual band assessment on the 1st day of December 2024 at SorSU Audio Visual Hall.
This year’s theme, “A resonant harmony, etched in memory: Where music resonates within the depth of our beings, touching our existence for eternity,” encapsulated the event’s essence with the dedication of the band newbies and their trainers.
The annual assessment is specifically designed for new band members to evaluate their skills.
Alzel Mae Jesoro, the SorSU Marching Band and Majorettes President, welcomed attendees of the event and expressed gratitude for their support.
Meanwhile, Sir Elmer Esplana, the SorSU Marching Band director, thanked the parents of the band newbies for their encouragement and commended the efforts of the band trainers for their dedication. “Being a trainer is the work of a manager, so bako man lang po pagtugtog ang tinutukdo mi digdi sa marching band, pati po ang values, number one po yan na tinuturo sa mga aki nindo,” said Sir Esplana.
The band director assured the parents that they shouldn’t be worried about their children because they are in good hands. He said, “Your children are in good hands; dae po kamo mag alala, dae po yan nagraralakwatsa, dae po yan natatao magbirisyo. Pero saro yan sa dahilan kaya nag iiwas sinda sa bisyo dahil, of course, sa pagtugtog. Saro po yan sa mga magayon na diversion na ang marching band is their [output] para makaiwas sinda sa stress, anxiety, or ano pa man na kakundian sa pag iisip.”
Sir Esplana extended an invitation to attendees for the upcoming event of the organization this coming December 14, 2024 featuring the tribute to parents and the SorSU Marching Band’s 20t anniversary concert. All details including the venue selection between Sorsogon Center for Culture and the Arts and SorSU Covered Court will be announced soon.
The assessment tested newbies with their musical note-reading skills without prior practice for their band assessment piece.
The event concluded with a photo opportunity for the organization.
