The Sorsogon State University Planning Management Office (SorSU-PLMO) organized a consultation workshop for top and middle management to evaluate the university’s strategic objectives and discuss innovative development strategies. Centered on updating the university’s strategic plan, the event was held on October 29, 2024, at Mai’s Hotel & Resort, Brgy. Caricaran, Bacon District, Sorsogon City.
The consultation workshop formally began with welcome remarks from Mr. Gerald E. Fulay, JD (Vice President for Administration and Finance), followed by an address from SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus. In her message, she encouraged everyone to learn from the resource speakers how to streamline and improve our program planning in alignment with local and national thrusts and priorities. She further said, “We are gaining wide recognition within our region and the entire country. At this point, we cannot slow down and remain where we are. Thus, to sustain our development, we must cooperate, coordinate our actions, and do all tasks together as a team”.
Engr. Gilberto A. Abion (Chief Economic Development Specialist, NEDA ROV), expressed his support for the initiative, while Dr. Catherine A. De Castro (Director, PLMO) presented the Statement of Purpose. Additionally, Engr. Cindy D. Deocareza (Planning Officer III) provided an assessment of the Strategic Plan and identified key challenges.
Furthermore, Ms. Aliana Joy G. Carillo (Planning Coordinator, TWG, Magallanes Campus) introduced the Strategy Framework and Key Initiatives, while Dr. Susan F. Astillero (TWG, Graduate School) detailed the Administration’s Thrusts and Priorities.
The afternoon session included a plenary discussion and an open forum, promoting collaboration and input from participants. Dr. Catherine A. De Castro outlined the next steps in the strategic planning process, highlighting the university’s future direction. The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (VP for Academic Affairs), emphasizing the collective commitment to the university’s strategic objectives.
Throughout the workshop, existing strategies were reviewed and recalibrated to refine the university’s strategic direction and enhance its capacity to tackle emerging challenges. This proactive approach demonstrates SorSU’s commitment to continuous improvement and excellence in education.
The event was also attended by resource persons from the Policy Formulation and Planning Division of NEDA ROV: Ms. Jubemay A. Mangalino (Supervising Economic Development Specialist), Ms. Nancy K.
