In collaboration with Sorsogon State University (SorSU) and the Association of the Philippine Schools of Midwifery (APSOM) – Bicol Chapter, the Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines (IMAP) Region V successfully led the oathtaking and induction ceremonies of the newly registered midwives (RMs) and new IMAP members across Bicol Region on December 11, 2024, at the Sorsogon Cultural Center, Cabid-an, Sorsogon City.
The ceremony formally began with the processional of IMAP officers, APSOM officers, the PRC representative, and the Board of Midwifery. The activity highlighted inspiring messages from Dir. Sharo B. Lo (Regional Director, PRC-ROV), Dr. Rolando Dealca (City Health Officer, Sorsogon City), in lieu of Hon. Ma. Ester E. Hamor (Mayor, City Government of Sorsogon), Hon. Lourdes S. Mangahas (Member, Board of Midwifery), Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus (SUC President III, SorSU), Hon. Patricia M. Gomez (Executive Director, IMAP, Inc.), and Ms. Carmen Aserado (IMAP President, Sorsogon Chapter).
SorSU President De Jesus underscored in her message that passing the licensure examinations will now enable the newly registered midwives to practice their noble profession in the hospitals and the communities — safely assisting expectant mothers in bringing forth new life into this world.
In closing, Dr. De Jesus emphasized, “I would like you to always keep in mind that as new professionals and particularly because you are in the health services, your top priority is and will always be to serve the needs of our communities… Be always proud and true to your oath as midwives — the work you accomplish with care, dedication, and professionalism is your greatest contribution to the development of our nation.”
Hon. Patricia M. Gomez (Executive Director, IMAP, Inc.) and Ms. Marina P. Samson (President, IMAP Region V) led the induction of new members of IMAP and the Midwife Pledge of the new RMs, respectively.
Sixty-four SorSUeno newly registered midwives (RMs) who successfully passed the November 2024 Licensure Examination for Midwives joined the ceremonies. Present also during the event were Ms. Mary Anne Frances D. Reyes (Program Chair, Midwifery) and Mr. Robert J. Jamisola (Dean, BS Nursing Program). (SorSU PIO)
