To promote interest in agriculture among young people and encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in the agricultural sector, the Learning Sites for Agriculture of Sorsogon, Inc. successfully hosted the Youth Agricultural Summit on June 11, 2025, at the Municipal covered court in Sta. Magdalena, Sorsogon.

With the theme “Future Farmers: Empowering the Next Generation through Agritech and Agribusiness,” the summit focused on encouraging young people to engage in agriculture by integrating modern tools, sustainable practices, and entrepreneurial thinking.

The program included a plenary session on Innovation in the Field of Agriculture and a panel discussion covering the following topics: Drones and Mechanization, Internet of Things using Arduino, and Climate Resilient Agriculture.

Panelists included experts from the National Rice Program, PhilRice, National Irrigation Administration, PhilMech, Aquaponics, and Sorsogon State University, with Dr. Ryan V. Dio (SorSU-VP for Research, Extension and Training) and Dr. Mark John G. Guysayko (Professor, SorSU-Castilla Campus) among the key contributors.

During the summit, SorSU President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus delivered a message, emphasizing the university’s commitment to supporting agricultural development and youth empowerment. She remarked, “As one of the 75 higher education institutions nationwide that offer agricultural courses, we are compelled to provide our commitment and full support to activities like this that advocate the pursuit of education and future careers in the field of agriculture, especially to the youth. I speak to you today in this summit to convince you that agriculture is one of the best educational and future career pathways that the youth must seriously consider.”
