SorSU President De Jesus (Distinguished Alumni Awardee), Faculty Dr. Funa (Special Recognition Awardee) recognized as 2024 Bicol University Exemplar Awardees at BU Alumni Luminaries Night 2024
In a notable testament to their unparalleled commitment as well as exemplary contributions and service to society, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, and SorSU Professor Dr. Aaron A. Funa were honored as two of the 2024 Bicol University Exemplar Awardees — recognized as BU Distinguished Alumni Awardee and BU Special Recognition Awardee, respectively — during the BU Alumni Luminaries Night 2024 on December 20, 2024, at The Marison Hotel, Legazpi City, Albay.
Spearheaded by the Bicol University, through its Alumni Relations Office (BUARO) and in collaboration with the Bicol University General Alumni Association Inc. (BUGAAI), the ceremonies highlighted the formal recognition and presentation of awards to the esteemed awardees, who are accomplished individuals across various disciplines, including good governance and public service, engineering and allied fields, food and industrial technology, information and communication technology, media communication/culture arts, medical and public health promotion and services, education, sports and development, accountancy and financial services, social work, agriculture, forestry and fisheries, management and human resource development, corporate social responsibility, peace and social cohesion, entrepreneurship, business and employment.
SorSU President De Jesus, an alumna of BU who earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Management in 2021, was honored as a BU Distinguished Alumni Awardee, celebrating her extraordinary distinction, outstanding accomplishments, and meaningful contributions through her visionary and transformative leadership at Sorsogon State University (SorSU).
On the other hand, remarkably earning the following degrees at BU: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Class of 2011) and Master of Arts in Nursing (Class of 2014), SorSU Faculty Professor Dr. Aaron A. Funa was among the honorees of BU Special Recognition Award for his exceptional achievements and contributions in the fields of public health and education.
