SorSU receives DSWD Vulcan Award for its efforts in providing social welfare and development (SWD) services to the vulnerable sector

As part of the 72nd Founding Anniversary of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the department proudly recognized Sorsogon State University and was presented with the DSWD Vulcan Award last May 23, 2023, at the Legazpi City Convention Center, Airport Rd., Legazpi City.

In connection with the program’s theme “𝘿𝙎𝙒𝘿 @ 72: 𝙆𝙖𝙖𝙜𝙖𝙥𝙖𝙮 𝙨𝙖 𝙋𝙖𝙜𝙗𝙖𝙣𝙜𝙤𝙣, 𝙆𝙖𝙩𝙪𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙜 𝙨𝙖 𝘽𝙖𝙬𝙖𝙩 𝙃𝙖𝙢𝙤𝙣” the Vulcan Award is given in appreciation of SorSU’s valuable contribution to DSWD along with its unwavering support to achieve the department’s endeavors in providing social welfare and development (SWD) services to the vulnerable. Moreover, Engr. Rufo D. Durian III, Dean of the SorSU College of Engineering and Architecture represented the University to receive the said award.

Relevant to this award is the “𝙏𝙞𝙣𝙙𝙤𝙜 𝙆𝙖𝙗𝙖𝙩𝙖𝙖𝙣 – 𝙎𝙠𝙞𝙡𝙡𝙨 𝙏𝙧𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝘿𝙎𝙒𝘿-𝙍𝙚𝙜𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙖𝙡 𝙍𝙚𝙝𝙖𝙗𝙞𝙡𝙞𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝘾𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙝𝙚 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝” program of the SorSU College of Engineering and Architecture, in partnership with the DSWD-Regional Rehabilitation Center for the Youth in Pangpang, Sorsogon City which began last July 27, 2020, until July 27, 2022. It involved the Electrical, Civil, and Mechanical Engineering Departments with the participation of the GEC Department and Architecture Faculty Members.

The “Tindog Kabataan – Skills Training to DSWD-RRCY” program aimed to train selected participants and help them develop skills in basic construction, welding, plumbing, and electrical components – all of which are essential livelihood skills to improve the lives of the participants.

As a university with a heart, Sorsogon State University will continue its commitment and social responsibility by collaborating with various agencies to share its expertise, and resources to further serve the Filipino community and beyond. (SorSU PIO)
