SorSU – Scholarship and Financial Assistance Services Unit (SFASU) releases TDP-SUCs stipend to 174 eligible SorSU students

Sorsogon State University – Scholarship and Financial Assistance Services Unit (SorSU -SFASU), under the Office of Student Development and Services (OSDS), successfully conducted the release of Tulong Dunong Program – State Universities and Colleges (TDP-SUCs) stipend to qualified and deserving SorSU students across four campuses, held today, December 14, 2023, at SorSU Audio-Visual Hall, Sorsogon City Campus.

Prof. Maria Crisanta M. Jarque (Director, OSDS), in her welcome message, highlighted that today is a day to be remembered not only because students will receive their stipend but also for them to remember that the University’s commitment to be of service to the students will always remain.

“Maliban sa pribilehiyo ng libreng tuition fee, patuloy ang Pamantasan na magsusumikap na maghanap ng ibang source of fund para kayo ay matulungan. Kasama ang pamahalaan, we in the University will journey with you as you continue to strive and struggle to finish your study.” “On the other hand, I challenge you to pass along this act of kindness and generosity to others.”

Moreover, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, narrated in her message that SorSU was truly fortunate to be included among the more than 100 SUCs who are chosen recipients of a scholarship grant from the Office of Senator Lorna Regina “Loren” B. Legarda (Senate President Pro Tempore).

“We have 17,000 students here. You are very much lucky that you are here today. Pagpahalagahan po natin ang mga bagay na ito. I just do hope that you will use this money kung saan talaga siya dapat gastusin.”

Meanwhile, Hon. Loren B. Legarda (Senate President Pro Tempore), in her message to the students via AVP, highlighted that the Filipino youth is the country’s hope. Hence, it is the job of the government to inspire and prepare students to become responsible and engaged citizens.

“Isa ang RA 10931 o ang Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act sa ating batas na isinulong para sa karapatan, dekalidad na edukasyon ng bawat kabataan. Kung kaya aking ikinagagalak na dahil sa batas na ito libre na ang matrikula at mga miscellaneous fees sa ating State Universities and Local Universities & Colleges (SUCs at LUCs).”

“At ngayong araw tayo ay nagagalak na mabigyan namin kayo ng karagdagan pang educational assistance. As we welcome the new school year, hangad ko na ito ay makatulong sa inyong pang-araw-araw na pangangailangan.”

Further, Ms. Marinel D. Soriano (Head, SFASU) delivered the closing remarks. Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort, was also present in the activity. A total of 174 SorSU students across the University received the stipend today (Bulan Campus – 8; Castilla Campus – 21; Magallanes Campus – 9; and Sorsogon City Campus – 136). (SorSU PIO)
