SorSU-Sibika Hub hosts Voters’ Education and Registration Program


Centered around the theme “Your Voice, Your Vote: Make a Difference!”, the Sorsogon State University-Sibika Hub (SorSU Sibika Hub) hosted a Voters’ Education and Registration Program on August 29, 2024 at the SorSU Audio-Visual Hall, Sorsogon City Campus, Sorsogon City. The event was designed to engage and educate young individuals on the crucial role of voting in shaping the future.


The Voters’ Education began with welcome remarks from Hon. Justin T. Dones (Vice President of the City SK Federation, Sorsogon City). It was followed by Dr. Catherine A. De Castro (Project Director, SorSU Sibika Hub/ Director, Planning Management Office), who delivered the Statement of Purpose and presented guests and participants.


Atty. Calixto Aquino Jr. (Provincial Election Supervisor, COMELEC Sorsogon Provincial Office) shared a message on the importance of voting. The keynote lecture, “Empowering Democracy: Understanding Your Right to Vote and Navigating National, Local, Barangay, and SK Elections,” was discussed by Atty. Karla S. Jerrera (City Election Officer IV, COMELEC Sorsogon City), providing participants with insights into the voting process and their rights as voters.


Mr. Aldrin B. Gallanosa (Local Government Operations Officer II, DILG-Sorsogon Provincial Office) spoke on Youth Engagement in Elections and Governance. His talk emphasized the role of young people in contributing to good governance. An open forum was held after his presentation, allowing attendees to engage in a Q&A session.


Mr. Julius E. Edma (Provincial Youth Development Officer, Provincial Government of Sorsogon) concluded the event with a call to action for the participants to exercise their rights and responsibilities as voters.


The program educated young people on the electoral process and encouraged them to get involved in their community. The event also included voter registration, allowing individuals to register and engage in civic duties. (SorSU PIO)
