SorSU signs MOA with PCIC, BFAR-NSTDC

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) ceremonial signing between Sorsogon State University (SorSU) and Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation (PCIC), as well as between SorSU and Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources – National Seaweed Technology Development Center (BFAR-NSTDC), took place on April 11, 2023, at SorSU Board Room, Sorsogon City Campus.

The MOA signifies a shared partnership and collaboration, through one of the projects of SorSU, spearheaded by the Magallanes Campus and Sorsogon City Campus, on the implementation of the research project entitled: “Enhancing the Development and Growth of Seaweed-based Enterprises in Sorsogon (Project EDGES)” which aims to capacitate the seaweed farmers in the production, processing, and marketing of seaweeds through capacity-building, livelihood skills training, cooperative formation, other relevant technical assistance and research projects.

All of the Project EDGES-related activities are being funded by DOST – Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development of Science and Technology (DOST-PCAARRD), and is in partnership as well with Agri-Aqua Business Hub (AABH).

SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus represented the Sorsogon State University, while Ms. Maria Janice V. Obias (Regional Manager) and Ms. Ida T. Capacio (BFAR-NSTDC Center Chief) represented PCIC and BFAR-NSTDC, respectively.

The MOA signing between SorSU and PCIC was witnessed by Dr. Ryan V. Dio (Vice President for Research, Extension & Training); Dr. Richard V. Dumilag (Faculty Researcher); and Dr. Maria Luisa P. Mirasol (Dean, College of Business and Management). On the other hand, Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, SorSU – Sorsogon City Campus) and Mr. Rene A. Regaspi witnessed the MOA signing between SorSU and BFAR-NSTDC. (SorSU PIO)
