Sorsogon State University (SorSU) continues to strengthen its role as a catalyst for community development with the successful ceremonial signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with several key partner agencies on June 23, 2025. The event, held at SorSU Dormtel, formalized partnerships under the university’s extension projects, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable and inclusive development.
The ceremony commenced with opening remarks from Dr. Telesforo D. Escoto (Campus Director, Sorsogon City Campus). This was followed by the presentation of project overviews delivered by Dr. Rose Ann Cleotilde Sambo (Project Leader, Castilla Campus), Dr. Orlando D. Doncillo (Project Member, COT), Engr. Joy Labo (Project Leader, COEA) and Dr. Aaron Funa (Project Leader, COHAS).
The agreement was forged between SorSU and six organizations. Representing each institution at the ceremonial signing were: SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus (University President, Sorsogon State University); Ms. Celine Murillo (Gulay Pa More); Hon. Ryan Dino (Liga ng mga Barangay, Prieto Diaz); FINSP Dennis Chan (Bureau of Fire Protection); Ms. Rose Belen (Barangay Salog, Sorsogon City); Mr. Sonny A. Pura (Philippine Nurses Association, Sorsogon Chapter President); and Ms. Carmen J. Aserado (Integrated Midwives Association of the Philippines, Sorsogon Chapter President).
These partnerships are expected to strengthen the university’s outreach programs and increase the impact of its initiatives across communities.
In her message, SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, highlighted the university’s strategic direction in aligning its programs with global standards, particularly the 17th United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG). She remarked, “As we formalize our cooperation through this Memorandum of Agreement, we reaffirm our collective responsibility to strengthen partnerships that enable sustainable development. While each of our organizations can deliver public service independently, our impact is greater when we unite. Through shared goals and joint efforts, we can better serve not only our local communities but also contribute meaningfully to national and global development.”
Following the MOA signing, each partner representative delivered a Statement of Commitment, affirming their resolve to uphold the shared goals stated in the agreement. The event concluded with closing remarks from Dr. Ryan V. Dio (Vice President for Research, Extension, and Training), who expressed gratitude to all partners for their support of community development through collaborative efforts.
