SorSU Strengthens ICT and Quality Assurance Ties with MSU-IIT

Sorsogon State University (SorSU), led by SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, undertook a strategic benchmarking initiative at Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) from April 10 to 11, 2025. Joining her were SorSU officials: Prof. Ma. Elena C. Demdam, Campus Director of SorSU-Bulan Campus; Dr. Rey C. Rodrigueza, Dean of the College of Information and Communications Technology (ICT)-Bulan Campus; and Mr. Daryll Tee, MIS Head-Sorsogon City Campus.

The initiative aimed to enhance SorSU’s ICT programs, faculty R&D activities, extension initiatives, campus network connectivity and technologies used, software development and information systems, internal and external research funding, research laboratories, smart classrooms, faculty development, and the utilization of students’ research outputs.


The SorSU delegation was warmly received by MSU-IIT Chancellor, Atty. Alizedney M. Ditucalan; OIC Chancellor and Vice Chancellor for International Affairs, Dr. Joey Genevieve T. Martinez; and Dean of the College of Computer Studies, Dr. Rabby Q. Lavilles.


A key highlight of the visit took place on the second day, as SorSU and MSU-IIT formalized their partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between SorSU’s College of ICT and MSU-IIT’s College of Computer Studies. The ceremonial signing was held at the Office of the Chancellor Lounge, MSU-IIT, Iligan City.


Representing SorSU at the signing were Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, Prof. Ma. Elena C. Demdam, Dr. Rey C. Rodrigueza, and Mr. Daryll Tee. On behalf of MSU-IIT, the signatories included Dr. Joey Genevieve T. Martinez, Dr. Rabby Q. Lavilles, and Prof. Liezil Daberao (Faculty, Computer Science Department).


The two SUCs will collaborate on academic programs, faculty and student mobility for teaching, research, and training, as well as other mutually beneficial activities. MSU-IIT’s liaison office will be the Dean of the College of Computer Studies, while SorSU’s will be the Dean of the College of Information and Communications Technology.


This collaborative endeavor marks a significant step forward for both universities, reinforcing their shared commitment to academic excellence and innovation in ICT.
