SorSU students and personnel partake in quarterly Earthquake and Fire Drill

In line with CHED ROV Memorandum No. 29 s. 2024, all concerned personnel and students were directed to participate in the 1st Quarter 2024 National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) scheduled on March 25, 2024. However, for Sorsogon City Campus, the drill for this quarter was conducted on March 8, 2024 during the Fire Safety Education and Training at Sorsogon State University (Baribag Campus), Sorsogon City.

Day 2 of the three-day Fire Safety Education and Training was focused on Emergency Evacuation on Campus setting, Emergency Rescue Transfer (including bandaging and transport of victim), Fire Safety Tips and Earthquake Drill.

The said training offered an intensive and immersive learning environment designed to empower participants with life-saving techniques to survive in a life-threatening situation.

The top performing personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Sorsogon City Fire Station led by SFO1 Michelle A. Lariosa (Chief of the Community Relations Unit), FO3 Cris Palanca, FO3 Lerma D. Hubilla, FO2 JB V. De Guzman and FO1 Obet L. Berion, under the supervision of FCINSP Eric A. Caramoan, shared earthquake-tested methodologies and provided an engaging spectrum of learning and reinforced practical ways on what to do during and after the earthquake.

On March 9, 2024, the last day of the three-day training, Engine 3 and SRF Duty Team B, SFO2 Maricur G. Destajo, SFO1 Michelle A. Lariosa and SFO1 Ryan G. Arias presented the Campus Fire Auxiliary Group Functions and Responsibilities and Organization of Fire Brigades. Highlights of the activity were the Presentation of Scenarios, Simulation Exercises and Actual Drill.

The said activity was important because it allowed everyone the chance to rehearse proper evacuation procedures and trained the participants to behave rationally during crisis.

The national earthquake drill campaign serves as a reminder to take earthquake safety as everyone’s concern.

The SorSU Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change (DRRM/CC) headed by Prof. Saturnino C. Carranza, the Gender and Development under the leadership of Ms. Riche Duran and the Bureau of Fire Protection, Sorsogon City Fire Station, built a strong culture of collaboration which facilitated the successful staging of Fire Safety Education and Earthquake Drill.
