To empower agricultural students, especially those from farming families, the Provincial Government of Sorsogon, in partnership with Sorsogon State University, convened on July 12, 2024, at the Office of the President (Sorsogon City Campus) to launch transformative initiatives aimed at advancing farming in the Province of Sorsogon. A cornerstone of this effort is the Agri-Kids Scholarship Program, designed to inspire youth to embrace agriculture and cultivate a new generation of agricultural leaders.
The program, under the leadership of Governor Edwin “Boboy” Hamor, aims to provide support to students, enabling them to complete their studies and succeed as agri-entrepreneurs and to promote innovation within the agricultural sector.
Central to the program is the provision of financial assistance to students of small-scale farmers. Student beneficiaries will receive a monthly allowance of 10,000 pesos, and a startup capital of 50,000 pesos to cultivate their family lands. This initiative not only promotes practical farming skills but also nurtures entrepreneurial spirit among the youth.
Moreover, guided by SUC President III, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, the Pamantasang May Puso continues to champion the education of future agriculturists. Dr. De Jesus firmly believes that by encouraging young minds to engage in agriculture and investing in their education, the future of agriculture will thrive and the province will achieve sustainable economic growth.
Present during the meeting were Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort (Vice President for Academic Affairs); Prof. Andrew F. Detera (Campus Director-Castilla Campus); Mr. Arthur Balmadrid (PHRMO Head, Kadunungan Project Manager); Dr. Maria Teresa V. Destura (Head, Office of the Provincial Agriculturist); Atty.
