SorSUeno artists join the 11th PASUC National Culture and the Arts Festival – to compete in three events; Street Dance, Music Competition (Classic Guitar), and Visual Arts (Photography)

With the theme “BIDLISIW: Paghilom, Pagbangon, at Pagsulong”, eleven (11) Sorsogon State University (SorSU) student artists attended the opening ceremonies of the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) 2024 National Culture and the Arts Festival (2024 NCAF) on April 23, 2024, at the Philippine Normal University Quadrangle, Metro, Manila.

SorSU President, Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus led the SorSU delegation in the grand parade and opening program, exhibiting the administration’s strong support towards the university’s participation in national-level events. Mr. Oliver F. Garbin, Head for Sports, Culture, and Arts Unit of the University, was also present alongside the coaches and 11 SorSU students who will compete against different regions across the Philippines such as Regions I-XII, National Capital Region, Caraga Administrative Region (CARAGA), Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Notably, Hon. Senator Pia S. Cayetano (Senator, Senate of the Philippines and Chairperson of the Committee on Sustainable Development Goals, Innovation, and Futures Thinking) served as the Keynote Speaker for the event. She emphasized the importance of keeping Culture and Arts alive and thriving for it to succeed for generations to come. Hon. John Marvin “Yul Servo” C. Nieto, the Vice-Mayor of the City of Manila, also gave his greetings to more than 2,000 delegates. Meanwhile, Dr. Baby Boy Benjamin D. Nebres III (Chair, NCAF 2024 Management Committee and President of Bicol University) presented the Regional Participants, PASUC Regional Chairs, Regional Cultural Directors, National Technical Secretariat, Contest Headmasters, and NCAF Management Committee. Moreover, Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo (PASUC President and President of Batangas State University, the National Engineering University) extended his warm greetings and delivered a message before declaring the opening of the NCAF 2024.

Further, SorSU will participate in three (3) events namely, Visual Arts Competition (Photography), Street Dance “Hip-hop” Competition, and Music Competition – Classic Guitar. Below is the list of the students who will participate in these competitions:

The PASUC NCAF 2024, hosted by the National Capital Region and led by the Philippine Normal University will run from April 23 to 25, 2024 at various locations in the City of Manila.
