SorSU’s College Education Behind Bars Program expands to BJMP-Irosin District Jail: Offers Entrepreneurship Programs for PDLs

In relation to the preliminary launch of the College Education Behind Bars (CEBB) Program of Sorsogon State University (SorSU), in partnership with the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) – Sorsogon City, a new collaboration with BJMP – Irosin District Jail was established today, November 11, 2024, at the Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Sorsogon City Campus.

SorSU Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Jhonner D. Ricafort, met with officers from the Sorsogon Provincial Jail Administrator’s Office, including JINSP Ampon G. Gestre, JO3 Mark Alvin L. Losuegro, JO2 Frenie C. Jubilo, Jr., and JO1 Joseph Nathaneil S. Marmol (Sorsogon City District Jail), along with officials from BJMP – Irosin District Jail: JSINSP Richard Ryan B. Molato (Acting Warden, Irosin District Jail), JO1 Manilyn C. Dichoso (Chief, Unit Welfare Development Officer), JO1 Josh L. Laurinaria (Community Relations Service Officer), JO1 Allona Janine D. Dooc (Development Officer), and JO1 Mike Louie G. Odena (Morale and Welfare Officer) for an exploratory discussion about the program.

During the courtesy visit and initial meeting, the BJMP officers expressed their support for the CEBB program, which aligns with their mission to aid in the welfare and rehabilitation of Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) through educational opportunities. These opportunities will enable PDLs to acquire essential skills for positive reintegration into society upon their release. As part of this initiative, the program will offer a Bachelor of Science in Entrepreneurship, led by the College of Business and Management Education at the Bulan Campus.

The CEBB program is an initiative of SorSU President Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, reflecting the university’s commitment to borderless education campaigns. This initiative demonstrates SorSU’s pursuit of quality and holistic education, adapting to diverse learning platforms for the benefit of the community. (SorSU PIO)
