SUC President III of Sorsogon State University (SorSU), Dr. Geraldine F. De Jesus, attended the signing of House Bill 9978 at the Malacanang Palace on December 6, 2024, where President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. officially ratified the bill. This legislation enacts a moratorium on the payment of fees and charges associated with student loans for higher education and technical-vocational training during disasters and emergencies.
Dr. De Jesus, invited by Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Commissioner, Dr. Ethel Agnes P. Valenzuela, was joined by fellow SUC presidents from the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges (PASUC). Together, they witnessed this significant step in providing financial relief to students and their families as they recover from the devastation experienced during times of crisis. (SorSU PIO)
